A Busy Mom’s Guide to Staying Fit

Remember the days when you spent countless hours at the gym? You took a spin class or went and ran 6 miles or followed that incredible online weightlifting plan? You finished with too many situps to count and 20 minutes of stretching just because you could? Well, I don’t know about you but those days are long gone in this house and, even if I had that kind of time……heaven knows I ain’t got that kind of energy! Not to mention, when you’ve got floors to clean, loads of dirty laundry and kids running wild, workouts can be the last thing on your list of to-dos.

I’ve seen both sides…..I’ve lived in a gym, even owned a gym. #gymlife was my life! Fast forward to the busy #momlife and  putting that on hold. We moved out to the country and our local gym didn’t fit my schedule so now what? Lucky for you, I did some research, tried out several options and have some great ideas for you!

MY FAVORITE WAY TO STAY FIT:

Sunny Health & Fitness Indoor Cycling Bike & Peloton Subscription

Have you heard of Peloton? Yeah I thought so. Well if Peloton is a Ferrari, this is a really nice Honda. Nothing flashy but well made, super dependable and gets you to the finish line. I loved spin class so this is a great way to get what I want without all the hassle of going to the gym. I purchased my Sunny Health & Fitness Bike on Amazon and had it delivered free to my door! (If you aren’t a Prime member, that’s a discussion for another day but it’s a MUST!)  BONUS: It’s really easy to put together!! I’m talking unboxed and ready to ride in under 30 minutes!

I downloaded the Peloton App and signed up for only $12.99 a month! Not only do you have access to hundreds of on-demand rides but you have access to their beyond-the-ride workouts for a total body blast! I also purchased this bike mount holder for my iPad and I was on my way!

We’re talking right around $300 and you are SET! Now, I know it’s not always easy to come up with that kind of money……but compare that to my $50 gym membership and it’s paid off in 6 months PLUS I can work out as many days as I want whenever I have the time. Your health is worth the investment, I promise! BONUS: My husband can use it too!

More Great Fitness Options…..

Tone It Up with Karena and Katrina

If you haven’t seen these adorable gals working out on the beach, it’s time to come out from under your rock. Haha kidding (but seriously)……..these gals work hard and look great doing it while giving you a beautiful beach back drop to lighten the mood. You’ll never get bored with their constantly varied workouts and, BONUS, they tell you what you’re doing each day. One less thing for me to have to think about? Sign me up! The best part is you can join for free!! Now there are workouts that you’ll need to purchase if you want to be able to do everything they’re doing but the prices are very reasonable! They also offer nutrition packages, tons of free recipes and so much more!

I’ve never been big on workout videos but these gals have made it fun while giving great results! That’s a win win! And for those of you who may travel a lot or are looking for something to do outside of the home, they have an app so you can take them with you wherever you go! Check these two out HERE if you are ready to take your at-home fitness to a fun, new level!

Runkeeper & Spotify

With all the rain in Oregon and two bad knees, running isn’t an every day option for me. However, I love it. It used to be my thing……my time to listen to music, process the day, pray.  It’s therapeutic! So when I see that sun shining, I grab my phone and go. My fave app for running or walking is Runkeeper. I use the free version (I’m not one to spend money on upgrades) and it tracks everything I could ever need. The cool thing about it is after my run, there’s a spot to log how I felt and any notes I may want to add! This has been super helpful to compare times, distances, certain training runs I may have done, etc.

I pair this with Spotify and I’m good to go! My husband and I got hooked on Spotify back when we owned our Crossfit gym because we could access SO many songs and artists as well as customize all of our playlists, making it easy to turn one on and get started. I hit my “Running” playlist (I know, SO original) or select browse when I’m feeling spicy and hit the road. For only $9.99 a month, Spotify gives us what we need to enjoy music anytime and anywhere.

Jamie Eason’s LiveFit Trainer

For those of you with a bomb at-home gym or the ability to get to the gym at least a few days a week, PAY ATTENTION! This is my go-to for a weightlifting plan. It’s fun, it’s easy for beginners and you can’t deny the results! I had some time a few years back where I was getting to the gym 4 days a week or so and while using this, I saw a significant drop in body fat percentage without muscle loss. Do I really need to say anything else? If you are looking to start something new or just need to make a change, I highly suggest you go check LiveFit Trainer out HERE and give it a try!
